![]() ![]() You want to be looking for something with at least the single core performance of that in CPU benchmarks anyway. I'm on a 4ghz i7-4790K which is what, 6 years old now? I think that maintains 100% in PR, although I'm not sure about RSG (I know some other ST-V games run badly, but those are mostly the higher resolution ones as the video rendering code in the ST-V driver is trash) I'm not sure I could comfortable recommend 'lower priced' With the sound emulation Psyvariar Revision does push recent higher end CPUs. There's probably room for optimization in the ST-V driver, as the code is currently terrible (and in current form it does even struggle in a few places on the latest machines) but people were frequently reporting random crashes with RSG in older versions instead so there's no clear 'best' option for that one even with good hardware. The very latest Ryzens on the other hand are very competitive against the best of the Intel chips.īasically yes, you're stuck with the older versions and the stability issues associated with them. It's the CPU, overclocking your CPU isn't really going to help unless you're only dipping by a small amount.Ĥ0-50% is actually higher than I'd expect to see on a quad core, the drivers in question aren't threaded, so in task manager you're more likely to see it peak at 25%, not sure why you'd be seeing higher.įor MAME / emulation purposes AMD CPUs were considered 'DO NOT BUY' until the most recent Ryzens as they typically were giving sometimes down to only half the Intel performance at the same clock (depending on the game being run) and you're on a 11 year old AMD. ![]() So is that what happened here or is there something else going on? My last resort is trying older versions for better performance. I briefly looked at MAME Benchmarks tonight before posting this, and it looks like some versions do cause a performance hit to some games. I opened up task manager to check the PC performance while the game was chugging in MAMEUI64, and CPU and RAM were only about 40 percent. So here are the things I've tried with little or no effect:ġ) Adjusted the audio sample rate to 16bit 41K CD Quality, as well as all other options.Ģ) Enabled multithreading via the MAME.INI file.ģ) Turned on/off frameskip, tried adjusting it between 1 and 10. This made no sense because it ran fine on the same computer in that super old version. Then it would bog way down to about 50 percent. I decided to try out Radiant Silvergun instead, and it was running at 100 percent at first, until I started shooting. I hit F11 to see the performance speed and it was dropping to 87 to 89 percent at times, which explains that. Anyway, I saw Psyvariar Revision is finally listed as green/working, so I launched it, and am getting stuttering/repeating music. 224 and got the corresponding ROM set (actually for. I had been using a really old version of MAMEUI64 for like 7 years, version. r/pinball - Pinball specific discussion. r/arcade - Original CoinOP Arcade specific discussion. r/RetroGamingNetwork - a multireddit for retro gaming! r/HyperSpin - HyperSpin specific discussion. R/MAME RULES/REGULATIONS REDDIT'S ARCADE COMMUNITY Over time, MAME (originally stood for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) absorbed the sister-project MESS (Multi Emulator Super System), so MAME now documents a wide variety of (mostly vintage) computers, video game consoles and calculators, in addition to the arcade video games that were its initial focus. The fact that the software is usable serves primarily to validate the accuracy of the documentation (how else can you prove that you have recreated the hardware faithfully?). The source code to MAME serves as this documentation. This is achieved by documenting the hardware and how it functions. As electronic technology continues to rush forward, MAME prevents this important "vintage" software from being lost and forgotten. MAME’s purpose is to preserve decades of software history. ![]() MAME is a multi-purpose emulation framework. Questions? Please check out OUR MAME/BYOAC Wiki! ![]()
